WE Bike NYC’s June 2020 News

To our community:

WE believe that Black Lives Matter.

Our city, like many others across the country, is in the throes of a movement for justice and equity, a movement that has been building for decades.

WE know that while a bicycle can provide freedom, that freedom is not equal across all races. Racism shows up in the bike community in many ways: from the over-policing of immigrant delivery workers; to the disparity in cycling infrastructure and traffic calming measures between predominantly white neighborhoods and communities of color; to the use of cars and bikes for violence against protesters this week. Our streets belong to all the people of New York.

Inclusion is at the core of our mission. WE want to get more women, female-identifying, and gender nonconforming people on bikes in NYC — no matter what kind of bike they ride, or the color of their skin. WE will continue to build an antiracist organization and community.
